Think of it as an 'academic debt'—a requirement that must be fulfilled before the university can award a degree. According to institutional records, students are typically allowed to carry these subjects forward to the next semester or year, where they must re-register and pass the exam to clear the record.

It is vital to categorize your status correctly: an 'active' backlog is a subject you have yet to pass, while a 'cleared' backlog is one where you have successfully passed the exam after a supplementary attempt. Most universities and corporate recruiters view these differently, as a cleared backlog indicates resilience, whereas an active backlog signals a pending graduation requirement.
