Quick Summary
Counselling Window: July–Sept 2026 | Eligibility: NEET-UG Qualified
MBBS admission 2026 relies strictly on NEET-UG scores, with all-India and state counselling rounds managed by MCC and state authorities from July through September 2026. Key milestones include Round 1 registration in July, Round 2 seat allotments in August, and Stray Vacancy rounds concluding by September 9, 2026.
Securing a medical seat in India requires strict adherence to the National Medical Commission (NMC) guidelines and the centralized counselling schedule administered by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) for 15% All India Quota (AIQ) seats, deemed universities, and central institutes, alongside respective state directorates managing the 85% state quota seats.
For the 2026 academic cycle, candidates must monitor multiple registration windows, document verification dates, choice-filling periods, and fee payment deadlines. Missing a single deadline can permanently disqualify an aspirant from participating in subsequent mop-up or stray vacancy rounds.
The evaluation process is rigorous, ensuring that only merit-compliant students secure admissions across government, private, and deemed medical colleges.
Key Points for Students
- ✓NEET-UG scorecard verification and mandatory registration on the MCC or state portals.
- ✓Choice locking and institutional preference submission during Round 1 and Round 2.
- ✓Physical reporting and document verification at allotted medical institutions within stipulated dates.
While national portals handle central quotas, state-level counselling bodies such as the Directorate of Medical Education (DME) in Tamil Nadu, Delhi University/IP University authorities, and individual institutions like SMIMS Sikkim publish independent schedules for Round 2 and stray vacancy rounds. For instance, Delhi MBBS vacant seats and stray vacancy rounds operate on tight timelines extending into early September 2026, while Deemed Universities follow distinct fee payment and reporting rules governed by DGHS.
